We are a small animal practice in Swansea, first established in the 1950s. We are passionate about animal care and our skilled team of veterinarians and vet nurses are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for your animals. Because we love animals and strive to provide excellent continuity of care, we are open six days a week and have access to 24-hour emergency care. For your added convenience, there’s free parking for clients at our surgeries.
Louise studied veterinary science at Liverpool University, moving to Swansea after graduation in 1994. Experiencing two years in mixed practice, she decided to focus on small animal practice. After a few years working in West Australia, New Zealand and Cardigan, she settled back in Swansea in 2002. Louise was appointed clinical director of Tawe Veterinary Group in 2014 and is responsible for the running of the practice. In 2016, after three years of study, she completed a certificate in advanced veterinary practice with a focus on small animal medicine and anaesthesia. Her other professional interests include feline medicine, dentistry and geriatrics. When not at work Louise will be found pottering in her greenhouse or cycling the valleys of South Wales and beyond.
Alison Brettell BVSc MRCVS
Alison graduated from Bristol Vet School in 2002 and worked in practices in Devon and West Wales before returning to her roots in Swansea. She has worked with us at Tawe since 2004, although she had a brief sabbatical in Liverpool during 2010 and 2011. She has an interest in surgery and emergency medicine. Outside of work, Alison will often be found enjoying Gower with her mad Spaniels and young family. She has recently expanded her family with the addition of a tortoise called Fred.
Nestor Moreno Casanova MRCVS
Néstor graduated in 2004 from Facultad de Veterinaria de Zaragoza in Spain. After a year in the Netherlands, he worked in Spain for 10 years combining small animal practice with the development of veterinary courses. He moved to Wales and joined the Tawe team in 2016. Néstor has a special interest in general surgery and oncology. Outside of work he enjoys reading, observing fauna and flora and spending time with his wife and their cat, Uri.
Yasmin Channon BVSC MRCVS
Yasmin graduated from the University of Bristol in 2018. She moved to Swansea to start working at Tawe Veterinary Group soon after and has a wide range of clinical interests. In her free time, Yasmin can be found walking on the beach, doing agility with her Collie cross, Finn, running, or riding horses.
Yolanda Coscujuela Saenz MRCVS
Yolanda moved to the UK in 2014 after graduating in veterinary medicine at Barcelona University. She enjoyed four years in mixed practice in the Highlands, Scotland, before moving to Swansea in 2018. Yolanda is currently studying towards the Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in small animal medicine, and she is also interested in imaging and in "little furries" medicine. She's nurtured her love for wildlife from an early age, and you'll often see her carrying her binoculars while walking her dog around South Wales.
Gemma Thomas BVSc MRCVS
Gemma studied at Liverpool University, graduating in 2005. She worked in mixed practice in Swansea (her home town) for two years before moving to Hertfordshire to concentrate on small animal practice. Gemma returned home and joined the Tawe team in 2009. Her professional interests include soft tissue surgery and canine behaviour. When not in work Gemma enjoys keeping fit and is kept busy by her crazy beagle cross named Celyn and young son.
